| HOPE group meetings are held at Living Word Ministries on Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. The HOPE group… We are a faith based support group for individuals or families affected by addiction. We provide hope, strength, and encouragement for those that are struggling, for families of those in need, and for individuals that have overcome the addictions, but need continued guidance and support. The HOPE group is recognized by the Drug Court. What is addiction… Addiction is defined as habitual repetition of excessive behavior that a person is unable or unwilling to stop, despite its harmful consequences. People can be physically addicted to a drug; meaning they may suffer ill physical effects if they stop taking the drug. They also can be psychologically addicted to drugs, gambling, or other behaviors; meaning they feel overwhelmingly deprived if they attempt to stop. We believe… We believe the only thing that changes lives is the blood of Jesus, the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the people of God. We emphasize: read the Word of God, hear the Word of God, and practice the Word of God. We can live in freedom from the bonds of addiction through the faith we have in God. Our Vision… We have a vision for a facility that can assist those struggling with addiction in our area, as well as surrounding areas. A place that will provide hope, help, and spiritual education, as well as comfort to families who feel all is lost. We want to provide a safe haven and a beacon in the dark for the spiritually lost. A “home” filled with love, guidance, and encouragement. Long-term mental, physical, and spiritual help to equip individuals to return to society as productive citizens. Focusing on individuals, ,we can change lives; one at a time. We have seen… Since the first meeting, February 24, 2004, we have seen tremendous progress and spiritual growth in the members of our HOPE Group. There is a visible change in demeanor, character, and overall attitude. Our members are affected by other group members with their testimonies of hope, faith, encouragement, and recovery process. Heyward & Connie Adams Due to personal involvement with an addict, Heyward and Connie Adams saw the need for a faith based support group in Cumberland County, KY. For two years they had been involved with a support group in Murfreesboro, TN that met twice a week. There they learned that addiction can be more than drugs and alcohol-it can be anything that has control over individual lives. They also saw that the group atmosphere was instrumental in the recovery process. Sensing the need for a group such as this locally, they formed the HOPE group. |
